The Price of “Netflix and Chill” is Rising

Netflix has always been there to make us laugh with The Office and cry with Grey’s Anatomy. It has even cured boredom by endorsing our mindless binge-watching of Friends. However, the cost of the streaming service will be raised by 10% soon, affecting over 50 million U.S. subscribers.
Netflix competes with other streaming services like Hulu, HBO, and Amazon, which also offer unlimited TV shows and movies. But let’s face it, Netflix has been lacking in quality content. Without top shows like Stranger Things, House of Cards, and Orange is the New Black, Netflix would’ve tanked by now.
With the price increase, Netflix is looking to outbid rivals for top shows and exclusivity to stream them. The extra money will also finance its original and critically acclaimed programing. These price changes come as no surprise after Netflix announced its plan to spend $6 billion on content. (Let’s just hope we get better movie choices!)

Affected users will be emailed about the change on October 19th with 30 days to either accept, change or cancel their subscription.
